Illinois is home to 159 native Carex species, which are highly adaptable and found in a wide range of habitats—from wetlands and woodlands to sunny residential landscapes. Each Carex species thrives in its specific environmental conditions, making them an essential part of every ecosystem. These sedges play a key role in supporting healthy environments by providing habitat and food sources for wildlife.

Mandy brings over 20 years of experience in the green industry and horticulture. She began her career as a landscape designer, where she discovered the value and beauty of native landscapes. For the past decade, Mandy has served as a native plant sales representative promoting, educating, and providing valuable native species to the industry. Currently, she is the Territory/Segment Manager for Native Plants at Midwest Groundcovers/Natural Gardens.
