March 2025 (Click the title to view the program YouTube video)
March’s Wild Ones program features Susan Carpenter, native plant curator and gardener at the University of Wisconsin–Madison Arboretum.
Native plants are the basis of sustainable, diverse, and beautiful gardens supporting pollinators, beneficial insects, and wildlife. A native plant garden itself illustrates local flora, appropriate plant placement, and seasonal change.
Garden care demonstrates sustainable practices and broader environmental stewardship. These gardens thrive without fertilizers, pesticides, mowing, or supplemental watering. Susan will share garden examples, garden care practices, and resources.
A graduate of Stanford University, Susan earned her MS in Botany and MS in Science Education at UW–Madison. With experience in plant ecology, ecological restoration, and science education, she works with students and community volunteers to maintain and monitor a 4-acre garden representing the plant communities of southern Wisconsin.
