Caterpillars are the engine of food webs. They feed birds, support pollinators, and keep ecosystems thriving. The film by Jeff McKay shines a spotlight on the critical—but often overlooked—role caterpillars play in biodiversity and hopes to raise awareness and inspire people to restore caterpillar populations by restoring native plants in their very own backyard.

The 60-minute documentary film features Dr. Doug Tallamy, entomologist, ecologist, and author of several books promoting habitat restoration on public and private lands through the planting of native plants. The story focuses on the 98% of the living world that is smaller than a bee.  Caterpillars are the engine of food webs.  They feed birds, support pollinators, and keep ecosystems thriving.  “Restoring native plants to the landscape supports caterpillar populations, which is at the very heart of the mission of Wild Ones,” said Jerry Paulson president of the Rock River Valley chapter, co-sponsors of the local screening.
